Our monthly meetings from September through May feature speakers who share valuable information about human resource topics in areas such as motivation, performance management, human resource strategy, compensation, career management, and legal issues such as FLSA, FMLA, sexual harassment, discrimination and other workplace issues. The various subjects presented for discussion help our members deal effectively with the issues they face in maximizing the contributions made by employees in their respective organizations. Both members and non-members are invited to attend.

This webinar will discuss best practices for maintaining an employee handbook. We will review what to include (and not include), considerations when drafting for multi-state compliance, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws year-after-year, and policy trends.

Speakers:

Jack S. Gearan is a shareholder in the Boston office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP. He concentrates his practice in the areas of Labor & Employment and Litigation, where he defends companies and public institutions in labor and employment and business disputes. He is experienced in complex employment litigation and trials.

In addition to defending clients in litigation when necessary, Jack provides counsel to senior management and human resource personnel on various employment law compliance matters, such as leaves of absence, exempt status classification under the FLSA and state law, employee discipline and restrictive covenant agreements. Jack is also regularly called upon by clients to conduct outside independent investigations of sensitive personnel issues or threatened legal actions. Additionally, Jack has advised companies regarding employment law in connection with various corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and reductions in force.

 Amanda L. Carney is an associate in the Boston office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP. She concentrates her practice in the areas of Commercial Litigation and Labor & Employment law, where she defends public and private employers, as well as individuals, in a broad range of matters.

 Amanda has diverse experience handling employment cases involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and numerous other personnel and workplace issues arising in state and federal courts and before state and federal agencies. Amanda regularly provides counselling to clients on employment-related compliance issues pertaining to wage and hour laws, harassment, discrimination, reasonable accommodations, restrictive covenant agreements, hiring practices, internal investigations, and employee handbooks/policies. She advises companies of all sizes, including start-ups, on the various employer obligations under state and federal laws.
